I'm not sure any of this is news really.

The EU was established mostly for trading purposes and intercountry trading among its members more than anything else.

Good luck with the rest of it, getting all the participants to agree to anything or give up anything they hold dear.

Whoa there, Ryan. Before you call someone a coward and a fool, you have to be absolutely sure you know what they're saying. You're interpretation of my post is false, so perhaps you were a bit hasty?

My argument is not that the EU is powerless. Instead, following Andrew Moravcsik, I'm saying voter priorities and areas of EU competency don't have a great deal of overlap. This is especially so in the UK where there are a great many opt-outs and opt-ins to EU legislation. It's not a particularly novel argument - Moravcsik made it first. However, I looked at the latest polls of voter priorities and compared them to EU competencies in those areas to test the hypothesis. Broadly speaking, I found Moravcsik's argument to be true.

Your argument is that the EU has very little power and influence which is completely wrong. Say it was right though, then why would you be so passionate about something that is so pathetically unimportant and powerless? It's one thing not being bothered by it but I find it strange how you are fixated on the idea of proving to everyone how pointless it's existence is. If you have access to this knowledge then surly it would only be rational to be against it considering we pay it £48,000,000 a day and an estimated £130,000,000,000 a year if all lost trade etc. is accounted for (although the government has continuously refused to publish the official figure). And also, he wasn't saying that the British care about it so showing polls about how they don't only makes you look like a foot, he was saying that not enough care about it because they don't realise how important personal liberty and democracy are or what it is like to live without them. Please don't lie, it is cowardly.
